Moorman Clothiers Scott Moorman had no
idea that a conversation over a simple cup of coffee back in
1992 would lead to his successful apparel business, Moorman
Clothiers, celebrating its tenth anniversary this year!
Moorman Clothiers marked 10 years in business April 1.
Located in downtown Mason City at the corner of State St. and
Federal Avenue in the historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed
First National Bank building, Moorman Clothiers also occupies
the two adjoining buildings to the south, giving it three
storefronts facing the downtown plaza area. According to
Moorman, there has been a clothing store at this location in
downtown Mason City since 1926.
Moorman Clothiers
opened its doors on April 1 in 1993, in the corner building.
Six years later, in 1998, Moorman added another 1,800 square
feet to the business when he bought the adjoining historic
“Northwest Savings Bank” building, which at the time housed a
bridal shop. The 1998 acquisition allowed for space to expand
the “big and tall” inventory and men’s formal wear.
Moorman Clothiers’ most recent expansion was the
opening in late 2002 of another 1,800 square feet to the south
with the new space housing the Moorman Clothier women’s
apparel department. The building was formerly occupied by
Spectacles.
Moorman added, that along with the 2002
expansion, the existing store interior was also “given a
facelift with significant remodeling and redecorating.”
Both Scott and Susan Moorman have an obvious flair for
fashion. While Scott also has a talent for the business
administration end of Moorman Clothier’s, Susan’s talents go
beyond just the fashion, with an eye for interior design and
décor. The interior displays and the windows in both of the
stores are testament to that.
Scott and Susan Moorman
have managed to not only create a very successful clothing
establishment, but also to put together a team of sales
associates and tailors, all striving to provide the best
service possible.
